When you first become eligible for benefits or during open enrollment, the benefits you choose will generally remain in effect for the rest of the year. You can only make changes to your benefits during the year if you have a qualified status change. Some examples are shown below.

| Family change | Marriage, divorce or legal separation, birth or adoption, death, child loses eligibility due to turning age 26 | 60 days |
| Employment change | Change from full-time to part-time employment, spouse loses or gains job | 60 days |
| Loss or gain of coverage | Spouse loses or gains coverage through their employer | 60 days |
| Location change | Moving out of your plan’s coverage area | 60 days |
| Medicare or Medicaid eligibility change | Gain or loss of eligibility for coverage through Medicare, Medicaid or CHIP | 60 days |
| Court order | Qualified child support order requires you to provide coverage for a child | 60 days from the date of the order |
